The Thirteen Drinks of Halloween 2020 – Seven

We are going to have some fun with our seventh entry of The Thirteen Drinks of Halloween. Think of this as an “after dinner” drink because it’s on the sweet side. Let’s be honest you can’t even see the dry side from where this drink stands, but what would Halloween be without some tricks and treats? So, please join me now as we stand and make The Eternal Kiss. 

This drink comes to us from the minds at El Silencio Mezcal. It’s a tribute to the Hershey’s Kiss, which I did not realize when I first read the recipe. The red topping in their picture made me think it had something to do with vampires, but I was wrong. It happens. The candy angle makes a lot more sense, but you know how it is when you get the wrong end of the stick. Let’s make it. 

The drink calls for a topper of grenadine whipped topping, let’s make that first. Grab a bowl and add 3 ounces of Heavy Whipping Cream and 1 1/2 ounces of grenadine. Whip together until soft peaks form. I ended up with a pink color, instead of the prescribed red, but it tasted lovely. Next grab a mixing pitcher and pop in 1 ounce of Mezcal, I went with the specified, El Silencio Espadin; 4 ounces of whole milk, 1 ounce of Hershey’s syrup and 3 stabs of Angostura bitters. Add ice and stir to the beat of Old Blue Eye’s version of “Witchcraft“. When it is well mixed and chilled strain into an etched glass coupe, top with your grenadine whipped cream and serve. 

Alright, this is better than expected. It is certainly Hershey Kiss-esque, in a good way. Let’s be honest, this is chocolate milk with mezcal in it, and there is nothing wrong with that. I’m not sure about the grenadine whipped cream, though. It has a nice flavor and a comforting pesto-bismol color, but I’m not sure that it helps. It feels like regular old whipped cream would work here, maybe work better. Of course, you must do what you feel is best. 

Yeah, it’s weird, but in a good way. I feel better about it since the red topping doesn’t reference the bloody eternal kiss of the nosferatu. Not sure what it does reference, since it comes out pink anyway. It’s October, so let’s go with breast cancer awareness and do some good. So, have a Hershey’s Kiss and get the girls examined, preferably by a professional. Lots of amateurs and folks in costume out during the season, so be careful.
