A friend asked what everyone was drinking this afternoon, so here you go, Doctor. This is a variation on the classic daiquiri. There are lots of ways to make this drink and I love most of them, even the Floridita one the requires a blender, but this is what we do most often and there is a reason this “old friend” is an all Corsair Artisan Distillery cocktail.
Go ahead and ice down a coupe, then add 1 ounce of Spiced rum and 1 ounce of Vanilla Bean Vodka to your tin. Throw in an ounce of fresh squeezed lime juice and and ounce of Demerara or simple syrup, 3-4 drops of 18-21 Havana and Hide bitters and a bar spoon of habanero shrub. Shake well and double strain into the chilled coupe. Garnish with a lime peel and float a couple of dashes of angostura.
Take a moment to contemplate the good things in life before sipping while thinking to yourself that as good as this is, it is better when made by friends. Stay home, stay safe, stay hydrated and stay sane. Cheers, my friends!
