This is it. The one we’ve been waiting for, the victory anthem, 100 days of cocktails. I have been looking forward to this milestone for a while now and we are celebrating with a drink I love and a swanky new vessel ready to make its debut. This is a quintessential tiki drink, lots of ingredients working in conjunction toward a common flavorful goal. The way things ought to be, in the glass and in the world. So, join me now as we stand and make the classic, Three Dots and a Dash.

I wanted to experiment today, so I am trying a refreshing “new to me” tiki drink. It has been on my list for a while, but I keep going with things I like rather than exploring new territory, but not today. Today we chase the horizon, so join me as we stand and make, the classic Dr. Funk.
Continue readingThis drink is a result of a few things coming together at the right time. We are on a tiki kick, because that is fun. We had fassionola, since Laura had made it for The Curse of Jean Lafitte the other day and I had this sweet rattlesnake mug that I have wanted to make a drink in. Since the stars aligned to make this drink possible, well mostly aligned anyway, join me as we stand and make the tiki classic, Cobra’s Fang.
Continue readingHard to believe we are way over into June and still making cocktails from quarantine. Worse than that there are more people that I know personally who are suffering from the virus at this moment than at any time since this started. There are lots of things to be depressed about, but I don’t have the energy for it. It’s Father’s Day and I got to spend it with the family and I got some sweet new tiki glasses so let’s make a drink. Since it is Father’s Day let’s make the Bahama Mama.
Continue readingNeedless to say, I’m a big fan of pirates. All my life, they’ve been there on some level and piracy in its various forms has had a larger influence on who I am than anything else I can think of. I am also a big film buff and these two worlds collide hard in the amount of my life spent with Yul Brynner, Charlotte Heston and many more in 1958’s The Buccaneer. This semi-accurate classic tells of the Battle of New Orleans and how my favorite pirate, Jean Lafitte, helped to save the fledgling United States. So it’s with a steady eye toward unhealthy anti-hero worship that I ask ask you to join me as we stand and make, The Curse of Jean Lafitte.
Continue readingWhat a long strange trip it has been. There’s a lot going on in the world today, to put it mildly, and it’s got me to thinking, about a lot of things, but mostly about the journey we are all on. So join me, brothers and sisters, as we stand and make, The Expedition.
Continue readingTo paraphrase Prince, “I was buzzing when I wrote this, forgive me if I go astray.” Tonight we made one hell of a drink, twice or thrice, I forget. I love this cocktail, always have. It is way overproof, one of those good “bang for your buck” drinks. It’s a tiki drink, so yay, and there is fire…I love fire. Plus, we had the perfect receptacle, courtesy of my grandma. I’ll tell you all about it below, but first let’s get the tag line out of the way as we stand and drink, the Jet Pilot.
Continue readingIn case you thought I was doing all this alone, I am not. Like most things, ok everything, I have ever done in my life, these daily cocktail posts are only possible because I have an incredible amount of help and support. Sometimes, it is Liam offering to shake the tins for me, sometimes it is Laura picking up alcohol or making syrups and suggestions. Other times it is my mom or grandma loaning glassware, my brother or dad offering “constructive” criticism, or you, gentle readers, suggesting cocktails. The thing is, without buy in from family and friends this would have been a really short trip. So tonight’s cocktail comes at the request, nay demand of my long suffering wife, my numero uno partner in crime who not only wanted to try, but put in the leg work to bring you the Navy Grog.
Continue readingI had other plans for tonight, but when I got home Laura had brought me a big cup of pebble ice with a request for something tiki. I ran through my mental Rolodex (that’s an old school contacts app, for you kids) trying to find something I had all the ingredients to make and sounded appetizing. I settled on a classic Singapore Sling, but after making it, taking pictures and drinking it, I decided to switch and make an infinitely more interesting variation, the South Seas Sling.
Continue readingMy hetero-life mate, Seth decided to get older today, not sure what he was thinking but who am I to judge. Anyway, another year in the books for my friend, so it is only fitting that I make something fruity and full of rum for the fella who made me appreciate Tiki drinks and bars as the wonderful escape from reality that they are. So in his honor, we’re making the classic Painkiller.
